Why do we fall from the bus while getting down facing backward?
Everyone in his/her life has always traveled in the bus or public transport at least once in his/her lifetime. Also, we have seen many people falling from buses & trains. Most of them does the same mistake which makes us falling from the bus while getting down from the bus in the wrong direction.
Why do we fall from the bus?
We simply because of law of motion. Newton’s 1st law of motions says that-
So when we are traveling by bus while the bus is in motion then we are also in motion along with the bus. So when the bus starts stopping its motion by the braking application then the bus stops faster than our body stops due to the solid body structure of the bus.

But at the time of stopping of the bus when we put 1st leg down at the road, then due to the forward motion of the bus, our body faces the force towards the forward direction. This force changes the center of gravity of the body (Responsible for balancing of anybody). This difference also occurs due to the change in the speed of Bus and Passenger getting down. The bus will try to move forward and the passenger will try to stop. This contradiction generates the change in center of gravity, relative speed. Which are responsible for falling on the road.
In that case, as we are facing forward we direction we are able to manage the center of gravity and motion control. But if we get down from the bus in facing backward direction then we won’t be able to manage the center of gravity.
Now let’s talk about Center of Gravity
Center of Gravity -The center of gravity is a geometric property of any object. The center of gravity is the average location of the weight of an object.
We can completely describe the motion of any object through space in terms of the translation of the center of gravity of the object from one place to another, and the rotation of the object about its center of gravity if it is free to rotate
Few best example of center of gravity-
Also if the passenger gets down from the running bus when the speed of the bus is very high and while getting down the first step of the foot does not comply with the speed of the bus then the passenger will fall badly due to sudden stopping of the foot but not the body. Below is the example showed-
So I hope you understood the reason for falling from the bus. Please spread awareness with your friends and family for road safety. Because many travelers adopt this habit without knowing the reason behind it. But when someone not much familiar with the public transport goes to bus or train, he/she may face the falling and get injured themselves.
